Sustainable Travel, Australian Traveller

Sustainable travel is about having a positive impact on the environment, culture and community. The Navigate Expeditions team strive to do exactly that and it’s wonderful for our efforts to be recognised in the August edition of the Australian Traveller magazine. This edition is all about sustainability in travel and highlights other innovative business on the leading edge.

“Meet the ECO WARRIOR, entrepreneur and change-maker who guides odysseys around the SAPPHIRE COAST that both celebrate and PROTECT the natural WORLD.

Jessica Taunton has been at the leading edge of the conscious travel movement for about a decade. After helping to establish Swell Lodge, the eco lodge on Christmas Island, in 2018, the young eco entrepreneur reached a turning point in her life and relocated to Australia’s East Coast. Jessica based herself on the NSW South Coast during lockdown in 2021 when she says she gained a fresh perspective of the ‘jewels of the Sapphire Coast’ and the direction she wanted to head.

“After running Swell Lodge for five years, and photography tours around the world, I decided I wanted to get back to nature and create experiences in my own backyard for people so they feel like they are leaving nature better than when they found it. I spent most of lockdown on the Sapphire Coast because I couldn’t travel the world and during that time I formed a deep connection with the region’s national parks, its rivers and estuaries,” Jessica says.
