Things to know before visiting Eden

Transportation

Public transport is scarce, and taxis are limited, so it’s recommended to hire a car or pre-book a tour if arriving by cruise ship.

Phone Reception

Telstra offers the best phone reception in the region. If venturing on longer walks, consider renting an EPIRB or satellite phone for safety.

Bushfires

Stay informed by downloading the Fires Near Me app and checking the fire danger rating  bushfire rating before exploring forested areas. 

Cruise Days

Cruise days, usually between October and April (peaking in Feb/March), can be busy. Expect delays in service, longer wait times for coffee, and limited parking availability. You can find the cruise schedule here.

Shoulder Seasons

For a quieter experience, consider traveling outside of school holidays and during the shoulder seasons. May to September offers more secluded beach visits and the whale season is August to November.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers

EV chargers can be found at Seahorse Inn and Heritage House Eden. It is recommended to download the Plug Share app before your trip. A free NRMA fast charger is available in Bega.

National Park Entry

Visiting National Parks in the area require an entry fee, so it’s advisable to check the specific park’s website for details and fees before visiting. Or purchase an annual National Parks pass if you plan of visiting for multiple days. 

Weather and Clothing

Eden experiences a temperate climate, but it’s always wise to check the weather forecast and pack accordingly. Layered clothing and a waterproof jacket are recommended for outdoor activities.

Wildlife Encounters

Eden is known for its diverse wildlife, including kangaroos and various bird species. Respect their natural habitats, maintain a safe distance, and do not feed or disturb them.

Respect for Indigenous Culture

The area holds significance for the local Indigenous communities. Show respect for their culture and sacred sites by observing any restrictions and obtaining proper permissions if needed.

Environmental Awareness

Engage in environmental conservation by using citizen science apps like iNaturalist where you can contribute to biodiversity research by recording and sharing observations of plants and wildlife. 

How long should you spend in Eden

Even a lifetime wouldn’t suffice to explore the entirety of this remarkable region. We recommend dedicating at least two full days to your visit, and the Eden Visitors Information Centre. However, ideally, allow yourself a week and use Eden as your base to to fully immerse in the region and venture further afield to the village of Pambula, Merimbula, Tathra Beach and even Bermagui.

It’s really hard to pick our favourite season, we encourage you to visit Eden in every season! 

Summer

The peak season buzzes with activity, offering warm waters and a vibrant atmosphere.

Autumn

Experience the transition into cooler months while enjoying the warmest water temperatures

Winter

Delight in cool mornings, sunny days, and fewer crowds. Perfect weather for being active outdoors.

Spring

Witness the awe-inspiring presence of whales and be enchanted by blooming wildflowers.

How to get to Eden

Car

The most convenient way to reach Eden is by car. It allows for flexibility and easy exploration of the region.  Eden is located 3 hours from Canberra, 6 hrs from Melbourne and 7 hrs from Sydney. Eden is accessible via well maintained roads.

Plane

If you prefer flying, you can reach Eden by taking a flight to the nearby Merimbula Airport with Rex or Qantas from Sydney or Melbourne. From Merimbula you can rent a car from Hertz or Europcar and it’s just a short drive to Eden.

Public Transport

While public transport options are limited in the area, there are bus services available that connect Eden with nearby towns and cities. Check out Sapphire Coast Bus Lines, Eden Buses and the V-line network for more information. 

Cruise Ship

You can enjoy a scenic journey by sea and disembark at the Eden cruise terminal. Cruise companies such as Majestic Princess, Seabourn Odyssey, Silver Whisper, Disney Wonder, Queen Elizabeth and Norwegian Spirit.
