Day 1 - Arrival at Seahorse Inn, Twofold Bay.

Welcome! This is your day to arrive and settle into your accommodation for the next 3 nights – historic Seahorse Inn Twofold Bay. Take the scenic drive yourself all the way to Seahorse Inn, or book a free transfer with us from Merimbula Airport or your accommodation in Merimbula, Pambula or Eden. Guests are welcome to arrive from lunchtime onwards, with keys available to rooms from 3pm.

We encourage you to make the most of your afternoon exploring the grounds, unwinding after travel, and settling into holiday mode. Take a stroll along the white sands of Twofold Beach, explore rockpools and get a feel for the raw beauty of this region. If the bay is calm, take one of our kayaks out and explore the sapphire waters.  Or just relax with a drink in the Allan Whiter Family Saloon Bar.

Your guide will be on hand to point you in the right direction, and answer any questions about the area and upcoming hike.  This is your chance to get to know them, your group, and the country you will be journeying through over the next 4 days.

At 6pm we will enjoy a fine Australian Cuisine together at the Seahorse Inn Brasserie, specialising in fresh local seafood matched with fine Australian wines. After dinner your guide will share details of the trail, what to expect, and answer any last minute questions you may have. Then it’s off to bed for a comfortable night’s sleep ready for our first day of walking in the morning.

Day 2 - Boyd’s Tower to Saltwater Creek, 13 km

At 8:00AM, after a delicious hot breakfast and fresh coffee or tea, it’s time to put on those boots and board our van for transfer to the start of the Light to Light Walk – Boyd’s Tower. Built in the 1840s, Boyd had sandstone blocks quarried in Sydney and shipped 500km down the coast to build his ‘lighthouse’. When you touch the walls, you’re feeling stone that was hand-carved nearly 200 years ago and transported through treacherous seas to mark the entrance to “Boydtown”.

Now we begin the 13 km journey along the coastline to Saltwater Creek.  This trail is a naturalist’s delight, and winds through spectacular melaleuca forest. Explore the rocky boulders at stunning Red Sands Bay. Keep your ears open for the calls of yellow-tailed black cockatoos, you may see them feasting in the tree tops. Mowarry Beach is a highlight, and an opportunity to cool off the sparkling waters of this pristine bay.  Throughout the journey your guide will teach you about the wonderful wildlife and botanical diversity that is found here.

Reaching Saltwater Creek in the early afternoon, you may see families of kangaroos grazing in the campsite, before a short drive back to our villas at the Seahorse Inn for hot showers and putting those feet up!

This evening you are in for a treat, as a beautifully presented outdoor fine dining experience awaits! Under moonlight and stars, you are served another hearty delicious meal made with fresh local ingredients. A beautiful opportunity to  connect and reflect on a wonderful day together, before a deep and restful night’s sleep.

Day 3 - Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay, 10 km (Davidson Whaling Station)

Our third day begins with an optional 6:30AM sunrise photo opportunity, as your guide leads you to the perfect vantage point over the ocean. Or for those of you wanting more adventure – join a short sunrise paddle in kayaks on the bay.  Sleep-ins and taking it easy are also encouraged and welcome! Again another delicious cooked breakfast and the smell of hot coffee and tea are served fresh for you.

At 8:00AM we embark upon a short drive to the historic Davidson Whaling Station, on beautiful Kiah Inlet – a hotspot for birdwatchers. For nearly a century, a pod of Killer Whales (Orcas), led by the famous “Old Tom,” would “herd” baleen whales into Twofold Bay. Your guide will share this history with you, including the remarkable recovery that our whales are thankfully enjoying now.

Now returning to  Saltwater Creek, we resume the next leg of our walking trail, 10km through to Bittangabee Bay.  This section of coastline offers yet another diverse range of ecosystems, with coastal forest, heathlands and rock platforms to explore.  Looking to the ocean you may see our friends, the white bellied sea eagles, circling on the up draughts, and diving for Australian Salmon in the waves.

Swimming opportunities are offered at beautiful Hegarty’s Bay, and yet another gourmet picnic lunch. Today’s walk finishes at Bittangabee Bay, where we’ll explore the remnants of Imlay House and Bittangabee Storehouse ruins, before returning once more to the Seahorse Inn. Dinner is served again at Brasserie, as we share photos and relax in the company of good friends.

Day 4 - Bittangabee Bay to Green Cape, 8 km

Smiles of your fellow hikers greet you as we sit down for our last breakfast together, before packing our overnight bags and securely stowing them at the Seahorse Inn reception and setting off in our van at 8:00AM.

We begin our final day of walking along the 8 km stretch from Bittangabee Bay to Green Cape Peninsula.  This historic path, tread by the original lighthouse keepers, is rich in history and natural beauty.  Sprawling heathlands are home to colourful honeyeaters and busily hopping wrens. Native flowers peek upwards to the sun, petrels and gannets swirl and call over the deep blue waters, and did we mention the whales? The rocky cape is a whale watching paradise, with humpbacks breaching and orcas diving and playing along the coastline during their annual migration. Having been immersed in nature for 4 days now, our minds become quiet, and our senses alive to the beautiful world around us.

But wait there’s more! In an epic finale to our coastal walking adventure, we join National Park rangers for an exclusive inside access tour of spectacular Green Cape Lighthouse. Scaling the spiral staircase, we have the rare opportunity of a birds-eye view of the entire coastline we have just walked along. Turning 360 degrees, you will be awe-inspired by the beauty of our amazing slice of paradise here on the Sapphire Coast. Guaranteed to impress!

In the early afternoon we leave Beowa National Park and travel back to the Seahorse Inn to retrieve luggage, return to vehicles, and say goodbye for now to our new hiking friends. Or continue north with us to your accommodation in Merimbula, Pambula or Eden.  Here we deliver you tired but happy late afternoon, with a renewed connection to nature and yourself.  We are so grateful and excited to have shared this wonderful journey with you, and hope that you will return to do it all again with us one day.
