We require a minimum of 4 guests to confirm a tour, but don’t worry if you’re booking for less!

If your group is smaller than four (especially outside of school holidays), please contact us. We’ll gladly check our schedule to see if we can combine your booking with another confirmed group.

If the minimum of 4 guests isn’t met three days before the departure, we’ll email you with your options: transfer to another confirmed tour time, receive a full refund, or pay the equivalent of 4 guests to guarantee your private departure.

Notification and Options for Unconfirmed Tours

If your tour has not met the minimum requirement of 4 guests three days before the scheduled departure, we will notify you by email with the following options:

Accessibility and Assistance

Our expert kayak guides are trained to assist all guests in entering and exiting the kayaks safely and with dignity. If your group has specific requirements or needs, please contact us in advance. This allows us to discuss your requirements in detail and make necessary arrangements to ensure your kayaking experience is both enjoyable and comfortable. Additionally, we may be able to assist with meeting NDIS goals; please contact us to discuss.

Kayak Types and Preferences

We offer single, double, and triple kayaks for our tours. Please indicate your preference on your booking form. FAQ

I don't like oysters. Will I still enjoy this experience?

Absolutely! This tour is about more than just eating. It’s a unique and fascinating experience learning about the sustainable oyster farming journey right on the beautiful Pambula River. For guests who prefer not to shuck and eat oysters, the farm will provide a delicious local cheese platter as an alternative. Just be sure to let us know on your booking form!

I have kids. Will they enjoy this tour?

  • For the full experience: Children are welcome to join both the kayaking and the oyster farm tour.

  • For kayaking only: If you’d prefer your kids only do the kayaking, please contact us.

Please note: We require a minimum of four guests for the oyster farm component of the tour to run.

Do I need prior kayaking experience?

No, you do not! Our tours are perfect for active individuals with good balance who have never been kayaking before. We use stable, easy-to-paddle kayaks, and our friendly guides will provide a brief but thorough instruction session before we depart.

Do you provide life jackets/safety equipment?

Yes, your safety is our top priority. We provide comfortable, correctly sized Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), or life jackets, for all guests, including children, which must be worn at all times while kayaking. Our guides are trained in water safety and first aid.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Cancellation by guest

The guest may cancel the Service at any time, by email or text message. The following will apply:

  • If the cancellation is more than 48 hours prior to the tour commencement, an administration fee of 25% of the booking cost will be deducted, and the balance refunded (type 1 cancellation);
  • If the cancellation is less than 48 hours but more than 24 hours prior to the tour commencement, an administration fee of 50% of the booking cost will be deducted, and the balance refunded (type 2 cancellation);
  • If the cancellation is less than 24 hours prior to the tour commencement, if the guest is a no show, a cancellation fee of 100% of the booking cost will be deducted (type 3 cancellation).

The administration fee is to compensate us for the administration cost of processing the booking and making the tour arrangements. The cancellation fee covers the cost of our tour staff and catering in addition to the administration fee

If your ship doesn’t dock, we understand the disappointment and will process a refund for you. We will treat the cancellation as a type 2 cancellation.

Cancellation by us

Navigate Expeditions may cancel the Service at any time by email or text message, for any one of the following reasons:

  • If the number of guests booked to participate in the Services does not meet the minimum number;
  • If extreme weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, extreme heat, strong winds, typhoons, sudden temperature shifts and fog are predicted or experienced;
  • If a state or national lockdown exists, such as for an epidemic or security reasons, preventing the guest’s travel to the place of departure of the tour;

Then Navigate Expeditions will provide a full refund of the booking cost in full satisfaction of all claims the guest may have arising from the cancellation.

Cancellation by a third-party provider

If a third-party provider cancels all or part of their services, Navigate Expeditions may provide an alternative activity, offer a private experience or provide a full refund of all monies paid, as it may decide.

Cancellation due to a Force Majeure Event

If a tour is cancelled prior to the tour commencement due to a Force Majeure Event, Navigate Expeditions will treat the cancellation as if it cancelled the tour.

Force Majeure Event includes but is not limited to: ‘acts of God’, war; civil commotion, riot; blockade or embargo, fire, explosion, breakdown, union dispute, earthquake, epidemic, pandemic or other health emergency, faults or errors in navigation or management of this or of any other Vessel, seizure of the Vessel under legal process, any abrupt or unexpected increase in the cost of fuel or shortage of fuel, flood, windstorm or other extreme weather event, lack or failure of courses of supply, passage of any law, order, proclamation, regulation, ordinance, demand, requisition or requirement or any other act of any government authority, beyond the reasonable control of the parties, whether or not foreseeable, which would make it dangerous or not viable for a trip to commence or continue.

What if it's raining?

We can still deliver this experience in light rain, provided we are not expecting a torrential downpour or dangerous conditions. We supply full-body rain gear (rain pants and coats from size small to large) for everyone. The oyster farm also has a comfortable undercover area where they can conduct the farm tour. We’ll only cancel in the event of dangerous weather.

Can I bring my phone on the kayaking tour?

We encourage you to bring your phone to take lots of great photos. We provide small, waterproof dry bags specifically for phones, as well as larger dry bags for personal belongings like towels and a jumper.

Can we purchase alcohol at the Oyster Farm?

Yes, you can. The farm does not sell alcohol to the general public, but they can sell it during experiences. Alcohol must be pre-booked and you will pay the oyster farm directly after the tour.

  • Local Beer: $9

  • Prosecco (25cL bottle): $14

Can I bring my dog or other pet?

no, we cannot accommodate dogs or any other pets on this tour.

This is due to two main reasons:

  1. Safety: For the well-being of all guests, pets are not suitable in the kayaks.

  2. National Park Regulations: We are paddling and stopping within the National Park, which strictly prohibits the entry of dogs and other pets to protect the local wildlife.

If you require care for your pet while you participate in the experience, please let us know before you book. We are happy to help you find a local pet sitter (at your expense).

Is there plenty of near-by parking?

Yes, there is plenty of parking available and it’s only about a 50-meter walk to our departure point. We recommend driving to the public toilet facilities before the tour starts, as the walk from our meeting point is about 300 meters up a steep hill.

What should I wear/bring with me?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wet. Quick-drying fabrics like swimwear or activewear are good.

What to Wear

  • Tops: A t-shirt or a lightweight long-sleeve shirt for sun protection. In winter, we highly recommend a warm layer, such as wool or fleece.

  • Bottoms: Shorts. Your legs will get wet up to your knees when launching and landing the kayaks. Please avoid wearing jeans as they hold water and are uncomfortable when wet.

  • Footwear: We recommend water shoes or old sneakers that you don’t mind getting wet. Alternatively we do have reef shoes that we lend to our guests.

What to Bring

  • Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen.

  • For After: A towel and a full change of clothes (since there are no changing facilities).

  • Hydration: A reusable bottle of water.

  • Warmth: An extra warm layer or jacket, which you can store in one of our waterproof dry bags.

  • Personal: Any necessary personal medication.
