
FREE Mogareeka Kayak & Citizen Science Clean-Up
Join Navigate Expeditions for a FREE, Council-funded community event dedicated to protecting the pristine Bega River estuary at Mogareeka. Participants will remove marine debris by kayak and foot, log their findings for citizen science, and celebrate their impact over a local morning tea.
Itinerary
9:00 AM – 9:15 AM | Welcome & Safety Briefing – Meet at Mogareeka Boat Ramp. Gear fitting (PFDs), Acknowledgement of Country, and safety briefing before hitting the water.
9:15 AM – 10:45 AM | Estuary Kayak Clean-Up – Paddle out in singles and double kayaks to collect marine debris from remote shorelines, mangroves, and sandspits along the Bega River estuary.
10:45 AM – 11:15 AM | Reserve & Shoreline Walk Clean-Up – Return kayaks to shore and sweep Mogareeka Reserve, lions park, and roadsides to collect land-based litter.
11:15 AM – 11:45 AM | Debris Sorting & Citizen Science – Gather at our central station to sort our haul, weigh materials, and log data into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) app.
11:45 AM – 12:00 PM | Morning Tea & Wrap-Up – Enjoy a delicious, zero-waste local morning tea, take a group photo with our collection, and celebrate our impact!
Join Navigate Expeditions for a free, BVSC community event at Mogareeka! Help us protect the Bega River estuary by clearing marine debris from remote shorelines by kayak and sweeping the surrounding parklands on foot.
After collecting litter, we’ll come together to sort the waste, log our findings into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) app for citizen science, and discover simple ways to minimise waste at home.
Wrap up the morning with a delicious, zero-waste local morning tea on the riverbank.
