Winter Solstice Starlight Kayak
Join us for a special evening at Wallagoot Lake, marking the deep of winter beneath the night sky.
Our Winter Solstice Starlight Kayak begins late afternoon on the north edge of the lake, as we bundle ourselves and our celebratory feast into waiting kayaks, and begin the journey across still waters.
As we paddle quietly past calling birds and schools of fish, the sun begins to set on the shortest day, and we watch the sky turn golden, reflected on glassy water.
Reaching the far edge of the lake, we disembark on the sandy beach, and gather together to prepare the feast. Our hands are warmed by steaming cups of seasonal soup, and we become present with the stillness, the dark night, and the gifts nature offers us. Together we will get creative with painting with light photography.
Then comes the most magical part of the night: we launch back into the water to paddle home in the dark. Guided by the glow of the waxing crescent moon and the stars, the rhythmic sound of our paddles become meditation as we return to the light.
This is a night of stillness, wild nature, and community warmth. Come cross the lake with us and welcome the light back home.
