Active: This program is designed for active teens with a good sense of balance and a love for the outdoors. While we will be paddling in sheltered lakes and lagoons with minimal tide or current, participants should be prepared for active mornings on the water. Each session is tailored to the day’s weather to ensure we are always in the most protected and enjoyable spots.

Terms and Conditions

Please read our full Terms and Conditions before booking.

Accessibility and Assistance

Our expert kayak guides are trained to assist all guests in entering and exiting the kayaks safely and with dignity. If your group has specific requirements or needs, please contact us in advance. This allows us to discuss your requirements in detail and make necessary arrangements to ensure your kayaking experience is both enjoyable and comfortable. Additionally, we may be able to assist with meeting NDIS goals; please contact us to discuss.

Kayak Types and Preferences

We use a high-quality fleet of both single and double kayaks for our youth program. Rather than sticking to one boat for the duration, we will rotate students through the different kayak types across the three days.

Swimming Ability and Safety

  • While being able to swim is not a strict requirement for kayaking with us, any participant who is a non-swimmer must let us know on the booking form. This information is essential, as it allows our guides to ensure appropriate extra safety measures are in place for your child.

  • Morning Tea & Swim Breaks: Safety is our priority at all times. If students choose to have a splash or a swim during our morning tea stops, they must keep their life jackets (PFDs) on and securely fastened while in the water.

  • Professional Oversight: All water activities are supervised by experienced guides trained in water safety and rescue protocols.

Assistance Animals and Pets

For safety reasons, trained assistance animals and pets are not permitted inside the kayaks.

Facilities and Location

Please note that facilities vary depending on our daily location:

  • Wallagoot Lake (Boat Ramp): There are public pit toilets available on-site at the boat ramp area.

  • Blackfellows Lagoon (Kalaru): There are no toilet facilities directly at the boat ramp. However, public toilets are located a short drive away at Evans Park in Kalaru.

  • Mogareeka: Excellent public toilet facilities are available at the Lions Club Park, right near our meeting point.

Pro Tip: We recommend “going before you arrive,” but your guides will always keep you updated on the facilities available for the day’s specific adventure!

FAQ

Do I need prior kayaking experience?

No prior experience is necessary! Our guides provide full instruction on the first day to get everyone confident on the water. However, because the program is adventure-based, it is best suited for students who are already active and have a good sense of balance.

Do you provide life jackets/safety equipment?

Yes. Safety is our absolute priority. We provide high-quality, Australian-standard Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs/life jackets) for every participant, along with all necessary kayak-specific safety gear.

Furthermore, our guides are fully trained in First Aid and carry comprehensive First Aid kits and an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) on every outing to ensure we are prepared for any situation.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Cancellation by guest

The guest may cancel the Service at any time, by email or text message. The following will
apply:
 If the cancellation is more than 48 hours prior to the tour commencement, an administration
fee of 25% of the booking cost will be deducted, and the balance refunded (type 1
cancellation);
 If the cancellation is less than 48 hours but more than 4 hours prior to the tour
commencement, an administration fee of 50% of the booking cost will be deducted, and the

The administration fee is to compensate us for the administration cost of processing the booking
and making the tour arrangements. The cancellation fee covers the cost of our tour staff and
catering in addition to the administration fee
If your ship doesn’t dock, we understand the disappointment and will process a refund for
you. We will treat the cancellation as a type 2 cancellation.

Cancellation by us

Navigate Expeditions may cancel the Service at any time by email or text message, for any one
of the following reasons:
 If the number of guests booked to participate in the Services does not meet the minimum
number;
 If extreme weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, extreme heat, strong winds, typhoons,
sudden temperature shifts and fog are predicted or experienced;
 If a state or national lockdown exists, such as for an epidemic or security reasons, preventing
the guest’s travel to the place of departure of the tour;
Then Navigate Expeditions will provide a full refund of the booking cost in full satisfaction of all
claims the guest may have arising from the cancellation.

Cancellation by a third-party provider

If a third-party provider cancels all or part of their services, Navigate Expeditions may provide an
alternative activity, offer a private experience or provide a full refund of all monies paid, as it
may decide.

Cancellation due to a Force Majeure Event

If a tour is cancelled prior to the tour commencement due to a Force Majeure Event, Navigate
Expeditions will treat the cancellation as if it cancelled the tour.
Force Majeure Event includes but is not limited to: ‘acts of God’, war; civil commotion, riot;
blockade or embargo, fire, explosion, breakdown, union dispute, earthquake, epidemic,
pandemic or other health emergency, faults or errors in navigation or management of this or of
any other Vessel, seizure of the Vessel under legal process, any abrupt or unexpected increase
in the cost of fuel or shortage of fuel, flood, windstorm or other extreme weather event, lack or failure of courses of supply, passage of any law, order, proclamation, regulation, ordinance,
demand, requisition or requirement or any other act of any government authority, beyond the
reasonable control of the parties, whether or not foreseeable, which would make it dangerous or
not viable for a trip to commence or continue.

What if it's raining?

We can still deliver this experience in light rain, provided we are not expecting a torrential downpour or dangerous conditions. We supply full-body rain gear (rain pants and coats from size small to large) for everyone. The oyster farm also has a comfortable undercover area where they can conduct the farm tour. We’ll only cancel in the event of dangerous weather.

Can I bring my phone on the kayaking tour?

We encourage you to bring your phone to take lots of great photos. We provide small, waterproof dry bags specifically for phones, as well as larger dry bags for personal belongings like towels and a jumper.

Can I bring my dog or other pet?

no, we cannot accommodate dogs or any other pets on this tour.

This is due to two main reasons:

  1. Safety: For the well-being of all guests, pets are not suitable in the kayaks.

  2. National Park Regulations: We are paddling and stopping within the National Park, which strictly prohibits the entry of dogs and other pets to protect the local wildlife.

If you require care for your pet while you participate in the experience, please let us know before you book. We are happy to help you find a local pet sitter (at your expense).

What should I wear/bring with me?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wet. Quick-drying fabrics like swimwear or activewear are good.

What to Wear

  • Tops: A t-shirt or a lightweight long-sleeve shirt for sun protection. In winter, we highly recommend a warm layer, such as wool or fleece.
  • Bottoms: Shorts. Your legs will get wet up to your knees when launching and landing the kayaks. Please avoid wearing jeans as they hold water and are uncomfortable when wet.
  • Footwear: We recommend water shoes or old sneakers that you don’t mind getting wet. Alternatively we do have reef shoes that we lend to our guests.

I have special needs or requirements. Can you still cater for me?

We strongly encourage people of all abilities to enjoy kayaking with us! We have several ways to make the experience easier and safer, including:

  • Adaptive Equipment: We have stabiliser floats that can be attached to a kayak, as well as high-back rests for extra support.
  • Trained Guides: Our guides are trained in community care and have experience working within the NDIS scheme.

However, for your safety and enjoyment, it is best to contact us directly before booking to discuss your specific needs.

A public tour may not be suitable if you require a slower pace or specialised assistance, as public tours require all guests to keep up with the group. In these cases, we often recommend booking a private tour, which allows us to fully tailor the pace, route, and assistance to ensure you have a safe, comfortable, and memorable experience.
